Advisory Board

The Society & AI Advisory Board comprises distinguished scholars, practitioners, and advocates from academic, public, and nonprofit sectors who provide strategic guidance on our research agenda, challenge us to explore emerging frontiers, and uphold our commitment to society-centered AI development. These advisors bring deep expertise across learning sciences, educational equity, AI ethics, policy, and practice—ensuring our scholarship remains intellectually rigorous, culturally responsive, and practically actionable.

Education shapes the future of AI—and AI shapes the future of society. We must ensure technology serves humanity's highest aspirations for equity, justice, and human flourishing.

In Memoriam

We honor the memory of those whose intellectual contributions, pedagogical wisdom, and dedication to human flourishing continue to illuminate our work.

Though they have passed from this world, their scholarly legacy endures—shaping our understanding of education, creativity, and the human capacity for meaning-making. Their contributions remind us that knowledge transcends individual lifetimes, living on through those they taught, mentored, and inspired.

A Message from the Founder of Society & AI

"Society & AI stands on the shoulders of giants. Our advisory board represents scholars and practitioners whose contributions to education, technology, and society have shaped our field. While many colleagues have supported our work, these advisors are fundamental—their scholarship, wisdom, and dedication to equity and justice guide our research collective as we advance society-centered approaches to artificial intelligence in education."

As we navigate the rapidly evolving landscape of artificial intelligence, the breadth and depth of expertise represented by our advisory board becomes ever more critical. Their insights help us anticipate consequences, both intended and unintended, of AI systems in educational contexts. Together, we work to ensure that the transformative potential of AI serves to amplify human flourishing, strengthen democratic participation, and advance educational equity—not merely to optimize existing systems, but to reimagine what education can and should be in an AI-augmented world.

Society & AI is a reincarnation of the Center for Knowledge Communication (CKC), pioneered by Dr. Beverly Woolf at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Building on CKC's legacy, we investigate knowledge-based educational systems and integrate theoretical principles into research systems for empirical evaluation and theoretical analysis.
