Society & AI: Public Scholarship for AI and Education

Overview

Society & AI is the public-facing platform that holds this broader research program together. It translates complex questions about artificial intelligence, education, and society into writing, resources, and conceptual frameworks that a wider audience can actually use. The aim is not only to publish research, but to make that research legible across classrooms, families, scholars, and public institutions.

Why This Project Matters

Much of the most important work in AI and education never reaches the people who most need to understand it. Technical papers remain siloed in conferences and journals, while public discussions often flatten difficult questions into slogans. Society & AI addresses that gap by treating science communication as a serious research practice.

The platform brings together scholarly analysis, focus-area frameworks, educational resources, and public writing under one coherent structure. It is designed to show how ideas connect: infrastructure constraints, human development, educational equity, public reasoning, and the social consequences of AI.

What the Platform Does

The project serves several functions at once:

• It documents ongoing research in a form that is open and readable.
• It connects technical work to broader educational and societal implications.
• It creates bridges between scholarship, classroom practice, and public understanding.
• It provides a long-term home for the Society & AI Research Group’s research identity.

Current Direction

Society & AI continues to expand as both a publication platform and a science communication initiative. New essays, research syntheses, focus-area pages, and educational materials are added as the work evolves. In that sense, the platform is not separate from the research portfolio shown on this page. It is the connective tissue that makes the portfolio understandable as a whole.
