Domi Smithson

Domi Smithson is a Research Support Librarian at Sheffield Hallam University, where she works with postgraduate students, researchers, and academic staff across the research lifecycle. Her role involves supporting the development of research skills, advising on publishing strategies, and enabling effective management and sharing of research outputs. Her practice focuses on research data management, open access publishing, science communication, and the responsible use of AI in research, with an emphasis on aligning innovation with good research practice.

Her work is shaped by a commitment to open research and to understanding the conditions that enable it in practice. As an Open Research Champion, she supports the adoption of transparent and collaborative approaches, helping to embed open principles within institutional workflows and research culture. Her work places particular emphasis on improving accessibility, integrity, and reproducibility across research activities, as well as supporting researchers to navigate evolving expectations around openness.

Alongside her library practice, she hosts the SHU Open Research podcast on Spotify, where she engages with a range of topics related to openness, research culture, and emerging technologies. Through this platform, she contributes to wider conversations about the future of research and scholarship. She is also a member of the Open Scholarship Community Sheffield, the Open Education Network, and the Research Data Alliance, where she engages with broader communities of practice.
